Did I say crappy?…..I mean, happy…….ok, maybe a little of both. Well, we’ve definitely seen better Independence Day celebrations than the one we saw this year. Regrettably Mason came down with the flu and threw up the day before, and we had already arranged to host a big 4th of July BBQ for both sides of our family at our house! I’d bought quite a bit of fireworks in advance for it as as well and was really looking forward to it, when this happened. Poor Mason was miserable from sun up to sun down for about 4 days! He kept running a fever and although he didn’t throw up after that one day up at Michael’s sister’s house, he was pretty much generally miserable. I stayed inside with him while the BBQ procession commenced and as soon as it was “late enough” to put Miserable Mason in bed, I did. We had all of our little Scouts perform a flag ceremony for us. Gavin was able to don his Scout apparel for the first time in a formal ceremony. I think he was pretty excited! Then, we had the grandpas share their feelings about being patriots of their country, with the family. The fireworks were really fun and all in all, it ended up being a good time. We had my parents and my grandma (Gee) there, along with Kenna’s family. Michael’s parents were there too, as was his brother, David. The only casualty of the night was Scott ended up dropping a sparkler on his foot and although screaming in pain, he continued to let it sit there on his foot and eventually on his sandal. I was worried the plastic might melt on him, but he seemed to make a quick recovery and continued having fun. When I looked at it later, he wasn’t really burned at all.
