Things That Make You Go Hmmm…

520

So the other night I was going through the papers Jared brought home from school.  For the month of February, he was given a spelling list of  Valentine words or phrases.  Part of the assignment was that he needed to illustrate those words and I came across this page.  He received a 10 for his illustrations and I was pretty proud of it until something caught my eye!  I will let you see if it catches yours.  At first I was a little embarrassed and laughed out loud remarking to myself how anatomically correct the cupid was.  Then, I  pointed it out to Michael.  We thought…oops, maybe we need to have a chat with our son.  So, Michael called up Jared and asked him about all his neat illustrations and got around to the Cupid, where Jared proceeded to explain that it’s Cupid in a diaper with a safety pin!  “Oh, we exclaimed.”

Where were our minds?!

Storytellers

072This year, both Jared & Gavin have decided to participate in the storytelling  competition at their elementary school.  Jared has helped Gavin become a fan of the children’s story book author Munsch, and Jared chose the PonyTail story and Gavin chose “I’m So Embarrassed!”  Michael and I were lucky; we both got to go to their classroom recitations and yesterday I got a call from Gavin’s teacher saying he was one of 2 chosen from his class to present his book to the entire 2nd grade!  He was so excited!  Jared finds out today if he is one of the top from his class.

Night At The Museum

Have I mentioned how much I love the city I live in?  I really love the city I live in.  They do a lot of community events and this month, Michael took Jared, Gavin & Scott to the annual “Night At The Museum” at our local museum.  They had all sorts of volunteers dressed in character.  I’m going to let Michael type up a little description.  I stayed home with Mason….he has a tendency to be a little difficult when it comes to things like this.  It’s the age…. Smile

Well, I took the boys down to the museum, parked, to find that it was freezing outside.  We had to park about a block away since it was the happening thing to do in that part of town.  As we neared the museum we saw that the line to eagle.jpgget inside was LONG!  We spent at least 45 minutes in line, in seriously freezing cold windy weather.  The only cool thing about the line was a man dressed in old time mountain man gear (Jared called him Robin Hood) with a real live Golden Eagle on his arm.  He showed us the eagle, tell us stories about it, cool facts about it and many other birds he has including falcons and hawks.  It was pretty impressive to see a golden eagle that close.  My boys liked it too.

Once we finally got inside they had a large foam dinosaur that people moved with rope and pulleys.  That totally reminded my boys of the night at the museum movies.  Dino.jpgWe saw cool rocks, a real painter painting, little girls in ballerina outfits in a large frame dancing as if the picture had come alive.  They also had a native American Hopi  Indian doing the hoop dance. Very impressive also.  At one point a lady worker in costume looked at my boys and asked if they were scared of turtles.  Of course they said no.  She then looked at me and, talking to them said, I bet he is scared of turtles to which I agreed.  Gavin looked up at her and said, “I have been with him 7 years and I know he is not scared of turtles.”  That gave me a good laugh.

President’s Weekend

Well, President’s Day has come and gone again and it was a fun long weekend with the kids!  We did lots of family stuff; swimming at the rec. center, took the kids to see the movie, “Journey to the Center of The Earth 2,”  played games, ate dinner over at Julie & Hank’s and even managed to squeeze in a date! Oh, and we went and looked at cars…..nothing serious, just looked.

Scott is hilarious!  He says randomly to me in the car today, “Mom, I want to grow up so I can grow Peck Pops of Love!  If you ever make yourself sit through that movie, you will know what he is talking about.  It stars “The Rock” and in it, he flexes his pec muscles and pops berries off of them and Scott was just laughing and laughing!  So funny!

My Sweet Valentines

DSC_0531“Mom, stay in your room and don’t come out!”  Another Valentine’s Day is here!  It’s how they always begin…….I’m that spoiled.  It’s the cries from my kids, telling me to hide in my room while they deck out the Family Room with their surprise for me.  Michael’s that sweet.  This year, as I came out, I found TONS of hearts strewn throughout the house with lots nice messages on each of them.  Most from Michael, some from the boys.   They were all so sweet.  I couldn’t stop smiling all day as I found them hidden in various locations…..pantry, dishwasher, clothes drawers, my car…….  Yes, I know I’m spoiled.

Our day started as usual….boys were off to school.  Scott had his preschool Valentine’s party the Friday before, so his excitement was coming to a close.  Jared & Gavin went armed with their Valentines; Sports ones with tattoos.  Gavin had a class party that I got to plan (room mom) and he seemed to have a good time!  It was the standard;  5 stations including 2 games and 2 crafts and of course…..a cookie decorating station.  Jared had a card exchange and I think that was it.  Both came home happy loaded up with lots of candy!  I had a whole container of leftover frosting left and one sugar cookie I saved for Scoots.  I left him to his decorating project at home, and in a few minutes he says, “Mom, I think I’m getting a tummy ache.”  I looked and the ENTIRE container of frosting, was gone!  Smile  He makes me laugh!  He didn’t say that because he was feeling sick, he said that because I’d warned him that if he ate too much frosting, he’d get an upset stomach, so naturally, he was waiting for it!

We finished our Valentine’s with a chocolate fountain for dipping anything we could find that sounded good in chocolate, and ordering a pizza!  We also played a couple games with our little loves.  It was a good night!

Picking Up Where We Left Off….

This is my attempt at getting back into blogging.  I look at my babies and realize just how quickly time does fly and I am overwhelmed at how fast time passes.  I can’t seem to  pause long enough to capture everything I want to remember before it’s gone.  So, I am hoping that by setting up a blog again, that I will be able to attempt recording (at least) some of the major events as they come along!
